Hire A Mermaid UK officially launched as an agency in 2014. Mermaiding was a very niche hobby/skillset back then that very few of the general population had heard of, and HAMUK wanted to bring the magic of mermaids to children and adults alike! The end goal? Make hiring a mermaid for your children's party just as popular as hiring a princess.

With the owner, Grace, garnering much media attention along with the other few pro mermaids at the time, the sport of mermaiding grew in popularity. Unfortunately with very little information or recourses available to those wanting to learn, the safety of budding mermaids became a large concern. This lead to the birth of Mermaid Camp in 2017, a 'one-stop-shop' for training to be a mermaid and gaining the essential skills, knowledge and qualifications to work professionally as the mythical creature.

Since then 'Mercamp' has become and eagerly anticipated annual event within the community and has trained over 80 mermaids!

Now in 2025, Hire A Mermaid has transformed into a directory - giving clients the ability to choose their mermaid, have direct contact with the performer and enable the mermaids to have more direct control over their bookings and calendars.

HAMUK will continue to run camps and photoshoots and still remain the point of contact for Film/TV/Media but we are excited for this new chapter that allows our hard working mermaids to be their own boss!

Safety and quality will always be at the heart of everything we do, and that's why ALL mermaids listed on our directory have to meet a minimum standard as well as provide proof of skill and qualifications.
